About a month ago, I finally took the plunge and purchased a 50MM lens for my Canon DSLR. I'd been using the kit lens for four years and thought it was time I move ahead and learn how to use a fixed lens. One of my favorite things about the 50MM is the super low aperture! I'm so obsessed with it, that the 1.8 F-stop is all I want to use (because blurred backgrounds are my favorite!) However, Sam reminded me that I needed to practice using the full range of my new lens' capabilities, and this aperture challenge definitely forced me to do that!

I stumbled on this post by accident and I'm so glad I did. I love this challenge! I, too, need to practice using the whole range of my lens. I'm a sucker for a shallow depth of field!

I'm guilty of sticking with a low aperture too! This week I saw that there are advantages to using larger apertures, which really caught me by surprise!
Did you shoot in manual? What made you change the ISO? I love how uniform your shots are...I shot in manual, but only changed the f/stop and shutter speed. I shot by a window with a rainy/cloudy day, so the light couldn't have changed MUCH, but there were a few of my shots that could have used a bit of help, I think!
I love these challenges! The low aperture is definitely pretty, but I love being able to capture everything in focus, too. :)
This is so fun! I love the blur of the first one but it is fun to see more details sometimes! It is cool so see how you can change your story by your aperture.

Yes ma'am! I always always shoot in manual. :) I change my ISO depending on my lighting. If you have less light, increase your ISO...I tend to bump it up to 400 or 800 for indoor shots when I have minimal natural lighting. :)
