The Fourth of July. It's a holiday that I love and have traditions for that weekend that I cherish. Back in Tennessee, we would go downtown every July 3rd for the annual Pops in the Park performance. We'd set up our blankets and chairs in Coolidge Park, sit for hours listening to the Chattanooga Symphony play patriotic music, and wait for nightfall to enjoy a spectacular fireworks show on the Tennessee river. The day of the fourth always meant family and cookouts and popsicles and swimming and games of bocce ball in the front yard. I didn't have all of those things this year since I have moved, and to be honest, it was a little hard for me. Traditions are something that I really love, and I was sad to miss those this year.
Since moving, I've had to remind myself that it's okay to miss the old, but it's also okay to create new. New friends, new favorites, new traditions. I spent my long weekend surrounded by my best friends and family here in Colorado, which made the not being in Tennessee a bit easier. We worked in the basement (AKA the boys worked in the basement), cooked yummy meals, ate lots of colorful fruit, laughed, relaxed, and stood at the top of a hill to watch fireworks explode all across the city's horizon. I stood there feeling thankful for my country, this land that I love, for my family, and for the people I get to walk through this life with.
What did you do for the Fourth of July weekend? Do you have any favorite traditions? Any favorite spots to watch fireworks? Tell me all about it. :) XOXO.
