today, i am at home, sick with a sore throat, headache, and a stuffy nose. say it ain't so!
i knew y'all would want to be notified.
i hate having to take sick days from work because i don't get many each year. four to be exact. and i'd rather save my sick days for when i'm deathly ill and may need to take a whole week off. this, of course, has never happened (except for that one time last year when i broke my foot and had emergency surgery on my neck), so i like to be prepared. here's the thing about sick days. your company gives them to you to use, but you're scared to use them because you don't want to get behind on your work OR because you're saving them for a rainy day. i always feel super judged when i take a sick day, but i have some things to say about that.
a// it's MY sick day to take if i need to
b// the world will go on turning if you take a sick day. your work can and will wait until monday, so calm down.
c// i HATE it when people come in sick to work. it's selfish and rude. so i'm certainly not going into work when i'm sick and could get my coworkers sick and wipe out my whole department with the plague!! sorry, was that dramatic? must be the nyquil...
all that to say. i'm staying home today and i won't feel bad about it. i'm drinking hot tea, eating soup, watching some Sherlock (BBC version, of course), getting the rest i need, and popping cough drops like nobody's business. over and out.
Hi there! I'm Caitlin and I'm a fairly new reader of your blog :) Sick days can be the worst! I always worry and feel guilty when I have to call out of work, but then you question - why was I even given the sick day in the first place? Workplaces are so silly with how they act when people call out!
I hope you feel better! I have definitely felt the guilt of taking a sick day before. Totally agree with you on people not going to work sick. I used to get so worked up when I worked at a school and parents would send their kids to school sick. There was one day were it felt like every kid in my class came to school sick and then every single teacher/teaching assistant was out sick the next day.
ah feel better! my roommate is sick with the same thing - so i'm sure it will be hitting me soon. sounds like a perfect remedy to feel better!
Feel better!
Sherlock! Sherlock! fell better you sicky before you come to see me ;) we are going to party hard when you land in Colorado!
oh you know me...always planning ahead! i figured if i got a cold this week, i'd have 2 weeks to recover! ;) i've gotta bring my A game for my first colorado thanksgiving!
yeah, it seems to be going around! i'm seriously just going through this bad of cough drops sitting on my bed. haha.
isn't it frustrating! stay home and get better! haha. seriously though, nobody else wants your sickness :)
hi caitlin! welcome!
i totally agree. work is weird with the days they give you!
Feel better soon!!
word
I get what you mean about sick days! It really stinks that sick days are limited and it too often forces people to go to work because they want to save them for more severe sick reasons.
Anyway, hooray for taking care of yourself and I hope you feel better soon!
feel better soon girl! it's no fun being sick.
I hate taking sick days too. For a teacher it is always more work than it is worth, but you are right...sick days are meant to be used. Haha. Feel better soon!
