california adventure.

one of my christmas gifts this year was a trip to san diego to visit my brother and sister-in-law. i had only been out to cali twice before...once for my brother's graduation and again last june for their wedding. it was so fun to be back in cali hanging out and enjoying the beautiful weather! when i say beautiful weather, i mean perfect weather. sunny san diego did not let me down!

drew and annie bought a house in san diego a few months ago and are starting to make it their own with a lot of hard work, a few coats of paint, and some help from ikea. they'd just finished their guest room (AKA my room, obvi) before i arrived. i wish i could show you the before/after because it is AHmazing. annie did such a great job on this room! it's like a breath of fresh air and the natural lighting is incredible. also, there is a giant canvas of the classy audrey hepburn. it's the best!

after the brother got off work on thursday, we headed up to the new in-laws' house in orange county. i was simply told we were going up to spend the night, and i didn't ask any questions. little did i know there was a surprise waiting for me the next day!

we all jumped in the car friday morning and headed out. soon enough i started seeing signs for disney, and i tried to contain my excitement JUST IN CASE we were actually going somewhere else instead. we were almost there when annie asked if i'd figured out the surprise. i squealed "are we going to disneyland?! I'M SO EXCITED!!!" ...and everyone laughed at me. i can't help it. i'm really just a five year old parading around as an adult. ;) more to come on my adventures in disneyland!

after a magical day at disney, i watched the sunset all the way home to san diego. i love the california landscape, and palm tree silhouettes are the best. it is so cool to me to see how diverse and yet equally beautiful different areas of the country are. Jesus is a pretty awesome creator, right?

saturday morning was spent at the beach with the puppy nephew. fin is basically the cutest little boxer in the world and such a great snuggle buddy. it was hilarious watching him chase the ball down the beach and into the ocean.  and coronado island is absolutely gorgeous!! if you have never been, you should take care of that asap. it's such a cute little island town with a pretty beach and beautiful views. the water in the pacific is a tad frigid, if i do say so myself. you get used to it though, or maybe you just go numb. i'm not sure...

we headed back to the island for dinner saturday night and rode bikes from a friend's house to an irish pub where we sat out on the cutest patio lit with strings of cafe lights. the evening air was glorious and i didn't want it to end. the time change and an early flight the next morning meant an early bedtime. the brother and i woke up before the crack of dawn to head to the airport.

leaving san diego and vacations being over is never really any fun, but i will say that my favorite part of leaving san diego is the takeoff. you soar up and out over the pacific before turning around and heading back east. it's the perfect goodbye.

until next time, california.

xoxo,

Man, I miss California! I only lived there for a short time, but it has some of the best views ever. Also, super jealous you went to Disneyland. I have so many friends going to Disney World (Florida) lately that I feel like I need to be going! ha!
