I've been a fan of Jane Austen since my younger days. I remember watching the BBC version of Pride & Prejudice during my middle school years. It was on VHS and approximately five hours long. ;) That was when I first fell in love with Colin Firth. I mean, who doesn't love Colin Firth? Out of all of the Jane Austen classics, Pride & Prejudice has remained my favorite over the years. I love and appreciate the other stories, but Elizabeth and Darcy is where it's at. Amiright? I actually didn't read the book until within the past few years, and it was glorious! I don't care what anyone says, a book is always better than its movie. There is always something to take away from a book, and Austen's books definitely don't disappoint in that department. So today I'm sharing a few nuggets of wisdom I gleaned from this tale.
I sincerely appreciate someone with a dry and witty sense of humor because they understand me, and I feel like Elizabeth Bennett and I would have gotten along exceptionally well. Apart from the fact that we would have had to fight over Mr. Darcy. #awkward. That being said, I love conversations full of witty banter. The British have conquered the art of wit, which may be why I like them so much.
2 | Stand by your family.
Let's be honest. No one has the perfect family. And no matter what your family does or does not do, you stand by them and you support them. Like when Elizabeth's silly sister runs off with the infamous Mr. Wickham, she does all within her power to save her sister's name. Really, Mr. Darcy is the hero of that story (again), but at least Elizabeth is concerned. Right?
4 | Be fearless.
I absolutely love Elizabeth Bennett's confidence. She knows who she is, she knows what she wants, and she isn't afraid to tell it like it is. Sure she has her moments, but she's a brave woman with a strong character. I want to be like that.

5 | Never settle.
Just don't. Mr. Collins is not worth it, ladies! I don't care if he'll save you and your family home. Run away and live with the kind forest animals before you'd ever settle for Mr. Collins. Also, he's your cousin, crazy. Ew. (Please tell me you read that in a Jimmy Fallon voice.) Know who you are and stick to your guns.
This adorable Pride & Prejudice swag is from the cutest little shop, Pemberley Pond. The lovely Lalla and Luisa are offering my readers a 25% discount in their shop using the code RIVERSANDROADS. Their items would make for great gifts and stocking stuffers this holiday season! Perfect for that Jane Austen aficionado in your life!
Current Pride & Prejudice recommendation: Death Comes to Pemberley. It's a mini-series (two episodes) on PBS. I was completely hooked! Give it a go and tell me what you think!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE AUSTEN CLASSIC?
This was such a cute read. :) I'm the same way about Sense and Sensibility. Elinor (minor peeve - I hate the way her name is spelled) & Edward are my faves! I love the Ang Lee film with Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, and Hugh Grant. UGH. LOVE IT to the point where I own the soundtrack and go through seasons of listening to nothing BUT the gorgeous music from the movie.
Love the colorful designs of Pemberley Pond. I just might take you up on that coupon code. :)
On Death Comes to Pemberley: I got so worked up over this mini-series and when I finally realized why, I felt like the world's biggest dork. I kept thinking, "this is awful. It's not even close to the true story - this never would have happened..." And then I had that awful moment of realization when I reminded myself that Pride and Prejudice wasn't a true story, but a work of fiction and that I need to take a chill pill. I was finally able to enjoy it after that. :)
I love this post almost as much as I love Jane Austen!
I'm telling you..me and you are book soul-mates...is that even a thing? If not it should be! I'm obsessed with pride and prejudice! I have every version of the movie ever made and I think I have a couple books too! I simple love the story! It obviously my favorite! And I just recently watched death comes to pemberley and LOVED it!!! I still have to read that though and in sure the book is way better. Lol!
hahah! I don't know the story at all but all I can think about is the game "Marrying Mr. Darcy!" You are just going to love it meg!
Oh man, I love this!! Pride and Prejudice was so fun to read and Jane Austen has, in many ways, nailed human nature at its core. I love watching things based on that time period so I will definitely look into Death Comes to Pemberley! thanks for the rec :)
Oh I love this, and that BBC version with Colin Firth is the absolute best! I have all the versions of Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility, that I know of, and I have watched them all countless times. They just can't be beat!

I LOVE THIS x100! Another reason why were are friends and I love that you have Persuasion up there too, it's my second favorite Jane Austin book. Have you seen the BBC adaption? It's pretty great. There is also a Mansfield Park BBC movie too, it's way scandals.
This is amazing! This is going to sound crazy but I've never read Pride and Prejudice but I loved the movie and tv show! I know, I know, I need to read it! It's on my list, promise!
The BBC version! Thank you thank you for mentioning that one. Way better than the more current melodrama, and dialogue straight from the book! Swoon.
Growth and truth and wit and mistakes and redemption - Jane Austen's characters are the best.
I took an entire course devoted to Jane Austen last semester and loved it! She really is great. I haven't seen the movie though. It's my sister's favorite of all time!
Oh my goodness, I would have loved to have taken that course!! Also, you should definitely watch the movie! :)
The BBC is SO great! But I do love the new one too. :)
Don't feel bad. I didn't read the book until a couple of years ago!
I haven't read Persuasion yet, AND I haven't seen the BBC adaptation. I need to find it! I did see Mansfield Park though!
Oh thank you!! Mr. Darcy FOREVER. :)
